Summary, etc. This is a wonderfully inspirational book. It tells the story of Robert Jaffray, a man born into a powerful and wealthy Canadian family who dedicated his considerable talents to leading the Alliance Missions in China and then the East Indies. He established mission stations and Bible schools in far-flung places previously unreached by the gospel and began a busy publication ministry. He measured his own success by how well the indigenous churches became self-sufficient and then themselves began to spread the gospel message to other communities. Although he could have escaped to Canada at the beginning of World War II, he remained in the East with those missionaries who were determined to carry on their work. Some were executed, and others died in internment camps. Jaffray himself, a man who suffered from diabetes and a weak heart most of his adult life, died of starvation in a Japanese concentration camp. His life and death were a great testament to self-sacrifice and total commitment to a cause far greater than himself.
