According to the author, the intention of this book is to encourage the English reader to take a critical interest in the New Testament. Reading the Synoptics, especially, he tries to forget all presumptions to understand its own particular message to arrive at a view of the Person of Christ. Believing that what image or name of Jesus that each gospel provides depends on the Gospel writers` experience of their Lord. Thus, he discovers in a new interpretation of the `Son of Man` a connecting link with would serve as a bond of union for all the varying estimates of Jesus, hence he ascribes him the title `The Master Craftsman` to emphasize Jesus`s continual help that meets today`s needs.
