Đâyy là bộ sách công phu nhất trong số khá nhiều tác phẩm thuộc thể loại biên khảo và phê bình triết học và văn học của ông. Thể loại này chiếm một số lượng đáng kể và có ý nghĩa quan trọng trong toàn bộ văn nghiệp khá đồ sộ của Bùi Giáng gồm hàng chục tập thơ, vài chục cuốn tiểu luận, tùy bút và dịch thuật (William Shakespeare, André Gide, Albert Camus, Antoine de Saint - Exupéry, Gérard de N).
