This lavishly illustrated catalogue documents the Bowers Museum's landmark exhibition: Treasures from Shanghai: 5,000 Years of Chinese Art and Culture, from the collection of the Shanghai Museum in China, exhibited February 18, 2007 - August 19, 2007. The Shanghai Museum has one of China's most renowned collections of ancient Chinese art. This catalogue features all 77 of the exhibits artifacts which portray the evolution of Chinese technology, art and culture. These objects range from bronze vessels, oracle bones, polychrome potteries, sculptures, porcelain, jade and bamboo carvings, and some of Shanghai's most exquisite and historically relevant lacquer boxes, paintings and calligraphy of the Ming and Qing dynasties. This exhibit, which dates from the Neolithic period through the Qing dynasty, is one of the largest collections to leave the Shanghai Museum since 1982.
