Ông chủ trương thuyết “tính ác”, ngược hẳn với thuyết “tính thiện” của Mạnh Tử. Trong Tuân Tử - Tinh hoa trí tuệ qua danh ngôn, ông sử dụng những bài học ngắn gọn nhưng thâm sâu để nhấn mạnh đến thuyết này và sự cần thiết phải “sửa đổi tính người”, muốn thế, phải tổ chức xã hội chặt chẽ, với kỉ cương trật tự nghiêm chỉnh, rõ ràng.
