Appeals to the views of Jesus are not uncommon, even outside the ranks of Church members, and it is imperative that professing Christians should take serious account of them. The current debate on the role of women in the Church and society evokes frequent reference to His teaching and example from participants on both sides, and it is consequently essential to have a clear and thorough understanding of what His attitude was. Dr. Witherington's monograph meets this need admirably.
