These essays represent a selection from all the contributions presented at the international Conference on Similarity and Translation, organized by the Nida Institute for Biblical Scholarship in New York on May 31st and June 1st of 2001. The main theme of this conference divided into four subtopics: rhetoric, culture, semiotics, and epistemology. As the reader of these papers will note, these subtopics cut across several fields of study, including translation studies, Bible translation, biblical studies, anthropology, cultural studies, semiotics, metaphor studies, philology, and cognitive sciences.
