Within the year, his fiancé, Thelma Mole, joined him as his bride. Despite significant challenges in French Indochina in the early twentieth century, the young couple thrived, leaving a noteworthy legacy. Ed Roffe's lifelong collaboration with other mission groups began when the Presbyterian mission turned their ministry in northern Laos over to him and the C&MA. The Swiss Brethren, who had served in Laos since 1902, sent two young ministers to the Roffes in Luang Prabang. They provided leadership for the C&MA-planted Lao Evangelical Church.
